Character Information

General

Canon Source: Homestuck
Canon Format: Webcomic
Character's Name: Karkat Vantas
Character's Age: 7 solar sweeps (15)
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played. N/A

What form will your character's NV take? It's going to take the form of something similar to Karkat's crabtop, though about half the size.

Abilities

Character's Canon Abilities: The Sylladex itself can be considered a special ability unique to his world. It allows objects to be stored in cards, making them weightless and easy to carry. Karkat's weapon specialty is sickles, which he became fairly advanced at wielding over the course of playing the game. Most players in Sburb get a title which gives them certain abilities, though his Knight of Blood abilities are still unknown as he never reached god tier to fully uncover them. He also has a uniquely special ability to "shoosh pap", which is basically the ability to calm down another troll from a murderous rampage or otherwise freakout. Though of course this only works if they're close to him and has only been used to it's full potential on Gamzee.

Aside from that, as he's an alien his body is tougher than a humans. He's a little bit stronger from years of fighting and training and his skin is naturally thicker than a human. Also his claws and fangs can do some damage if he really tries.

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? N/A

Weapons: Various different sickles he had in his strife deck, 2 pokeballs which contain a Zorua and a Mightyena at levels 23 and 22.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.

Character History: Wikia
Point in Canon: Act 6 Intermission 3 - Two years on the meteor with Kanaya, Terezi, Gamzee, Dave and Rose and they're going through the dream bubbles. In specific they've entered the dream bubble of the pre-scratch trolls. And Karkat had the horrible privilege of meeting his ancestor as he was originally before the game corrupted their universe. Karkat basically spent a ridiculous length of time being in shock over Kankri not shutting the hell up. Lecture after lecture, barely a breath or pause between points. Karkat was struck speechless and did whatever he could to sneak away when it was too much. And he finally did, only to be accosted by Meenah demanding to get into the area of the dream bubble that he had locked away in order to hide at least some of his secrets from the others. It's at the point where he lets her in that I'm taking him from.

Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: In Sinnoh, Karkat found himself with nothing better to do than play along with what was expected of him. He kept close to Gamzee and Sollux, feeling it his responsibility to keep his moirail and blind best friend safe in a strange world, and very begrudgingly allowed Dave to follow them around. On top of that he took it upon himself as a leader to be in charge of everyone he recognized, even if they were alternates that weren't from his world because SOMEONE had to do it. And by default also took it upon himself to be in charge of any of the others there who would allow it, under the impression that the sooner someone completes the quest the sooner they can find their way home.

He was never into the whole "catch 'em all" bullshit and was picky when it came to what he would catch. Even after a month, he only had one Pokemon in addition to his starter and that was fine by him. With the AU's that were there, he got a glimpse of things that quite frankly broke his thinkpan (Such as the case with Dave Vantas and Equius Lalonde) but he managed to just file that under alternate shenanigans bullshit. He did however, prefer Dave Vantas over Strider any day. Equius Lalonde could have burned in a fire and died for all he cared.

Character Personality: Karkat is the troll of Cancer, his name being a variation of it and even his Lusus was a crab type. And as such, he has the personality to match. He's an asshole to the max, insulting others almost constantly with little to no reason behind it. Almost anything can set him off on someone, the smallest thing being able to piss him off and send him into a rant about one subject or another. He screams, keysmashes and rarely even bothers smiling. His bad mood seems damn near perpetual, the various levels of his emotions being mostly negative all the time. Patience is not a virtue to him, it's a waste of fucking time. Any explanations he tries to do are laced with insults and frustration, but they are there nonetheless. His biggest strength is his leadership skills (mild complex issues there), being the one who takes charge of the entire troll session and trying to get the others to follow along with it. Though they think of him as a joke half the time, they eventually accept his leadership.

All of his insults and bitching aside, he holds great care for others close to him. He's good at understanding others and their point of view (at least when he's not flying off the fucking handle) though he rarely acknowledges such unless it's a more serious matter. Which to him, falls under the relationship category. The one thing he considers himself an expert at, he goes out of his way to help his friends whenever they have love life problems and talks them through it the best he can, giving advice and support along the way. (Though in his own special gruff and borderline insulting manner.)

He takes all of his responsibilities very seriously, and can be highly dependable when he needs to be. He values order, seeing what needs to be done and taking it upon himself to make sure it gets done no matter what. While it might seem like a hard task to others, he doesn't mind it and almost enjoys it because it lets him show off his badass leadership skills. Though all of this is just Karkat starving for approval from others, a deep need to be accepted which comes from his crippling fear of his blood color. Because unlike most trolls, Karkat's blood isn't even normal by any standards, a mutant candy red that he's sure will get him killed if anyone were to find out. He's terrified of others finding out about it, going out of his way to stay inside as much as possible and only talking to people online for the majority of his life. (To pass the time inside, he took up an interest in his shitty Romcoms, believing them to be complex masterpieces. Because if he couldn't go out and have fun like normal trolls he needed something to occupy lots of his time and hold his interest, which is how he became a master at troll romance and the go-to guy for relationship problems.)

Even during the Sburb session, he states that he took the greatest care to make sure he never got himself cut or injured or let anyone close enough to be able to tell. The one instance where his blood was drawn he freaked out, screaming at Jack not to look at him because he was a freak and rambling on and generally panicking about it. He only stopped when Jack (fed up with his bullshit) cut his own hand and showed they had the same blood color. This automatically fascinated and calmed Karkat down, and even caused him to grow attached to the other. While traveling with Jack he would defend him from even the comments of his troll friends, getting upset to hear that Terezi was working on a separate plan that would end up exiling Jack. Karkat claimed that Jack was a cool guy, and Terezi countered with he was a jerk and had stabbed Karkat several times. Even still, Karkat continues to defend him and claim that Jack didn't really mean it and he was positive the third time he stabbed him was an accident. And in the same conversation, when Terezi tells him that she knows his blood color, he freaks out and begs her not to tell anyone. When she demands that he has to tell them eventually, he states that he will one day, once he's proved himself to them and they accept him.

Despite trolls being a naturally bloodthirsty species, Karkat doesn't really show that trait very much and he has problems springing into action when shit really hits the fan. Something goes way off plan when he's not near by and he throws his usual pissed off fits of ranting and and raving at whoever screwed things up. But in the case he is near by, he usually can't handle the situation very well depending. Seeing Tavros' legs be cut off with a chainsaw, he fainted. Watching his best friend die because of a mistake he made, he starts crying and blaming himself. And watching a close friend of his go batshit and murder two others, he becomes completely shell-shocked and goes into a state of disbelief. Even still, he does his best to collect himself and fight on, taking charge once more and making sure that everyone else is safe and the situation is handled in some way or another.

Karkat's main trait is his determination and seemingly lack of fear. His image is everything and he never allows himself to be anything less than perfectly brave no matter what he's facing. No foe is too big for him to fight, and even if it is he'll still take it head on just to prove he can. He never backs down from a fight or anything, even if it's completely obvious he doesn't stand a single chance in hell he doesn't let that stop him from moving forward and facing the challenge head on. The more challenging something is actually, the more determined he is to face it and conquer it. His foul mouth makes people think others, but he also does possess a good amount of chivalry under it all. Canon wise his title named him as a knight, and he can show such traits if he thinks the need calls for it. He can be courteous and helpful, but to uphold his 'image' he tends to do it in his own special way. While he tries to act like he's doing things for himself or tries to make up some story for the reasoning behind it, he will go out of his way to help people if they need him to, even if said people annoy him he doesn't mind lending a hand and even if he gets nothing in return. In his own way, he's kind and caring of others but merely comes off as harsh on purpose as that's just how he was raised.

Also as designated as the Knight of Blood by the game, it's hinting at his leadership skills. His ancestor was said the be the 'Sufferer' who lead a great rebellion, uniting different social blood classes for the greater good. Karkat does much the same, bringing together all 12 trolls to play the game together and trying to keep them alive when they go into hiding with what happens after. One thing that makes him a great leader is his high adaptability. While as he has a habit of flipping his shit over small things and big things alike, he gets over them just as quickly and manages to be flexible with the situation and what it calls for. He keeps a clear head most of the time, able to take things in stride. (Just with a fair amount of bitching.)

When it comes to relationships he can be bold and shy at the same time, usually always getting embarrassed afterwards as part of his social awkwardness. With John, he states that their hate was written in the stars and proceeds to hit on him with full expectance of John returning his feelings of blackrom (Troll romance is complicated, and hate is actual a major relationship for them). When John turns Karkat down by telling him he's not a homosexual, Karkat doesn't know the meaning of the word (trolls go with either gender by default) but then gets really awkward after that and demands they never talk about it again. When John points out that he'll still remember even after this conversation, Karkat decides to troll the humans backwards through time instead of proceeding forward, just to avoid the embarrassment of future conversations.

Conditional: Personality development in previous game: In Sinnoh, Karkat spent most of his time around Dave, Gamzee and Sollux. Not much different from his time on the meteor and his stay there was just under two months at best as the game was brand new and didn't go too far. As there were no major events and not enough time, his personality wasn't affected in any noticeable manner. The main aspects that effected him were CR wise, and that mostly revolved around Sollux and Dave Vantas. With Sollux being freshly blind, there was a sense of guilt and pity Karkat wasn't sure what to do with and mostly avoided the topic all together as much as he could. And Dave Vantas hit a cord with him as it was the first person aside from his asshole future and past selves who actually understood all the crap that he had to go through in life living it the way he did. As these are things he's going to forget over the course of being in Siren's Port, it's not really any major changes to him overall.

Character Plans: Since trolls are naturally nocturnal, I think it would be interesting to see how Karkat manages to get around at night despite the monsters outside, or find out if he would rather force himself to switch his schedule around instead to avoid the darkness. It's especially interesting to figure out which way to go as on Alternia trolls were only nocturnal because their sun could kill them, and now he's in a place that's the exact opposite where nighttime can kill him. It just seems like a fun switch around to play with.

Feeling like shit was nothing new for Karkat, it was pretty much just another bit of proof that everything in the known universes hated him and was quite frankly trying to erase the mistake that was his hatching in the first place. But this wasn't something that he'd felt before, wasn't quite the same as a dream bubble. For one thing the memories that assaulted him were familiar, yet somehow foggy in certain places. He remembers something like this happening before, but not nearly as rough and tumble as this bullshit. Before there was disorientation, but nothing close to this sickness from feeling as though he'd almost been torn apart. Really, he would have been more content to just stay there on his hands and knees trying to get his bearings about him. But the sound of a whimper and a little ball of fur crawling it's way up his shirt was enough for him to let out a groan and sit up, half annoyed and half confused as Z's head peaked out of the collar of his shirt before ducking back in to hide. The little fox was normally a mouthy little shit, so him being scared of something actually rose a bit of alarm in Karkat.

That was when he actually took in his surroundings, the signs being the first things he noticed and it didn't take a fucking genius to figure out there was something seriously wrong with this place. He tried to stand on his own, arms around his middle to keep the little fox from falling out of his sweater, but ended up falling right on his ass again. With a frustrated groan and a good several muttered curses, he reached for what he knew was in his pocket. In a flash of light his Mightyena was there, that growling just as disconcerting as the fear from Z. Even more fucking reason to find a place to go inside as quickly as possible. Normally Karkat preferred the night as trolls were nocturnal, but there was something ominous about that sun about to set and his instincts told him to get the fuck out of dodge as fast as he could. For once in his life he didn't mind his smaller size as he pushed himself up and with a little help from Carcino secured himself laying over the hyena pokemon's back as he took off towards the nearby parking lot.

The lower the sun was getting, the more anxiety was starting to claw at him and the feeling that something was very wrong. Those signs meant something and Karkat really didn't like what was being implied here. He was weary as he saw other people, people handing out little things like leaflets and what look like little gift baskets. He'd be more cautious and demand answers from these assholes, but something was clawing at him and demanding that he get inside. Which could either be just in his thinkpan or the little fox inside his shirt, either or. Showing weakness when he thought he was alone was one thing, but it was something else entirely when there was a bunch of judging strangers around. With only a bit of effort he climbed off Carcino's back and returned the still growling Mightyena to his pokeball. As he actually bothered to listen to what one of the assholes were saying about that he should get inside as soon as possible because soon it might be too late, he suddenly realized that maybe that shithole Sinnoh wasn't too bad after all and this is what he gets for being an ungrateful little shit.

He didn't even have the mind to snap at the assholes ushering him inside as the sun finally set, too busy watching in mild horror the changes that were already taking place in the streets outside. Suddenly, previously mentioned assholes weren't so bad after all. He turned away from the decay to make his way to the landlord office, still on edge and having just a mild panic attack internally. Everything was still a disoriented jumble, barely able to tell apart home from Sinnoh and just how he'd come to this place and where the fuck was everyone else. But his past experience told him that tiny, simple fact. There was a good chance he was alone here, that none of his friends were even here to keep him company. No moirail to scare away the darkness and tell him he'll protect him, no Strider to fight with and threaten to throw out there even though they both know he's not that cruel, no Terezi to irritate him to the point of forgetting all this bullshit. Just him and these two animals that seem to have the unfortunate curse of being stuck with him.

Trolls were nocturnal, and even the sweep of flying through the void it didn't change their natural patterns too much. Karkat in particular who rarely slept unless he didn't have any other choice, unless he was feeling particularly nostalgic and wanting to visit some of their dead friend in dream bubbles. But even an insomniac like him had his limits, and the moment he was secured in his own apartment he somehow barely felt safer than he had been out on the streets. It was morbid curiosity that made him go over to the window, pull back the blinds and stare out at the streets below. Hell was pretty much the only way to put it in his mind. He had apparently finally fucked up enough that the universe literally sent him straight to hell. Just fucking great. With a growl that was a mix of unease and frustration he slammed the blinds shut just in time for some weird fucked up flying beast to pass by the window.

He'd never liked those human beds, always found them to be too uncomfortable and fuck what he wouldn't give for his recuperacoon right now. Nothing like a bit of sopor to just knock him out when he didn't want to be awake for this shit. Instead he opted to curl up on the couch, removing his DVD player and pile of DVDs from his sylladex and putting in the first one he could grab. Fuck sleep and fuck whatever the darkness was. He was just going to sit there and watch his romcoms until that shitty nightmarish world faded away like those assholes said it would. He eventually managed to get Z to come out from under his shirt, but only when he'd wrapped a blanket around himself so there was still something to hide in. And after a moment's consideration, he let Carcino back out as well so the Mightyena could lay on the couch with them to watch the movie. Karkat wasn't sure when he dozed off, but despite his stubborn attitude his mind and body were too sore to keep up the marathon like he had planned. There would be time in the morning to figure out just what the fuck was going on with this place.
